MAG 322 IPTV Box Review

Home entertainment has been evolving radically in the last few decades. Televisions are much bigger, thinner, and feature-packed. The content is also sharper and more abundant than ever. Delivery is no longer confined to a handful of channels over the airwaves. Now we have streaming over the Internet to provide endless news, sports, movies, series, and reality shows to whoever wants them. There is never a dull moment at home as long as you have a broadband connection and the right equipment for the job. For example, you can view online channels on your TV with the help of an IPTV box like the MAG 322.

Product Features

The brand Infomir is one of the leading names when it comes to IPTVs. Its previous release, the MAG 254, turned a lot of heads because of its reliability and ease of use. This was quite a long time ago in terms of the electronics industry so a new model was definitely due. That is exactly what we get with the MAG 322 which continues the legacy of its predecessor while adding more value. It is still a fast and reliable device for streaming that does not break the bank. Nearly all internal components have been upgraded, along with a sleeker design.

For the hardware, the MAG 322 features the BCM 75839 chipset, the MIPS 4KE Dual Core processor, 512 MB of memory, and 512 MB of NAND flash storage. These are slight improvements over the last generation. As for the software, the operating system is Linux 3.3 which is a nice jump from the MAG 254’s Linux 2.6.23. It uses Verimatrix for CAS/DRM for the Mag 323. The unit is integrated with the Ministra TV platform of Infomir. There are also built-in applications and other customizations. It is possible to return to factory settings or to update whenever necessary.

The unit features an Ethernet port with 100 Mbps maximum speed, two USB 2.0 ports, an IR receiver for the remote control, an LED indicator light, and a 12V power port. As for the audio and video capabilities, this one can send digital data to the TV through HDMI 1.4b and decode modern HEVC videos or older at 1080p 60fps. It supports OpenGL ES 2.0 and prior graphics. This is compatible with MPEG 1, 2, 3, and Dolby Digital. There is a 3.5mm jack for audio to stereo speakers if you would like to have that connection. It only weighs 144 grams.

The MAG 322 IPTV Box has a solid processor, enough memory, and increase flash storage for reliable performance. You won’t have to worry when picking this up as you can surely get excellent streams of your favorite channels. Even the build quality of the device has improved a bit form the previous generation. That is always a good sign from the manufacturer. Buyers will also be happy to find that this comes with batteries and an HDMI cable in the package so there is no need to make separate purchases if you don’t have these already. The Wi-Fi pickup is strong so that will not be a bottleneck.

On the other hand, this unit does not include any antenna. If the router is far way or there are many walls in the building, then you may have to take extra steps to ensure a good connection. This should not be a problem in most cases for home setups. It also doesn’t have VPN support so if you need the privacy then you are out of luck. This might be important if you are trying to access channels that are barred in your region. Subtitles are not available as well. If you like viewing foreign language channels, then you are out of luck understanding what is being said.

How to Set Up

The hardware setup could not be any easier. Just plug in the HDMI cable to the device and the back of the television. This should take care of both the video and the audio, if the TV has its own speakers. You could connect a sound bar or any other speaker system if you want a better aural experience. If you are going to play a file from a thumb drive or a hard drive, then you can connect this to the USB ports. If you want to have a fast Internet connection for streaming, then plug an Ethernet jack at the back of the box.

As for the software side, the user interface is quite simple with basic icons and notifications. You can set the date, time, and the region for weather updates. There is a built-in Internet browser, an IPTC channels list, a download manager, a recorder, a casting app, and a media player. You can open the settings to enter the credentials for the home Wi-Fi. It would also be prudent to check for software updates from time to time so you have the latest firmware. This will fix most bugs out of the box. Next, go to the servers, portals, and add the portal name and URL or your IPTV provider.

Comparison with Similar Products

Most people will be more familiar with Android TV boxes which have well-known brands on the market like the NVIDIA Shield and the Xiaomi TV Box. This is definitely a great option if you would like the Android experience as a home entertainment machine. You can install a large number of apps including Netflix and other streaming services, on top of games and other useful applications. However, a dedicated IPTV box will simplify matters if that is all you really need. The interface is geared towards providing seamless viewing. The price is also very affordable.
